Beginning next month, “How2Recycle” labels will be affixed to four Clorox products: Fresh Step and Scoop Away kitty litter cartons, Green Works laundry detergent and dishwashing liquid, and Oxi stain remover.

A dozen major U.S. companies, including General Mills (NYSE:GIS), Kellogg’s (NYSE:K), Microsoft (NASDAQ:MSFT) and REI, have already joined the labeling scheme. Since launching last January, How2Recycle has established itself as the only labeling system that convey recyclability across all material types and provides explicit directions to consumers to influence their recycling behavior.

The FAA has required that all of its 47,000 employees—including its 15,000 air traffic controllers—to take one day off every two weeks, as part of a plan to save $637 million in cuts by the end of September. On Tuesday, the FAA announced that these staff reductions had caused “more than 1,200 delays in the system,” in just one day of furloughing employees. (There were an additional 1,400 delays due to weather.)

Bookings for merchandise meant to last at least three years fell 5.7 percent after a revised 4.3 percent gain the prior month that was smaller than previously estimated, the Commerce Department reported today in Washington. The less-volatile category that excludes transportation equipment unexpectedly dropped for a second month.

(CAT) are feeling the pinch as customers rein in spending on equipment and inventories on concern that across-the-board federal budget cuts and slower growth overseas will restrain the world’s largest economy. Yesterday, Congressman Mike Turner of Ohio’s 10th District held a field hearing at Sinclair Community College to discuss the use of Unmanned Aerial Systems.

Congressman Turner chairs the House Armed Services Subcommittee on Tactical Air and Land Forces. He says the reason for the hearing was two-fold: to assess how safely Unmanned Aerial System can be integrated into domestic airspace, and what opportunities that would provide the Miami Valley.

“Here in our community we have Air Force Research Labs,” says Turner. “We also have Wright-Patterson Air Force Base that’s been a leader both in developing technologies, but also applying them to airspace safety. So, we want to know that they’re at the table because that helps our community have a leg up in bringing some of these jobs to our area.”

Sustainable food and agriculture systems can play a big role in preserving the environment by helping to improve soil health, protecting biodiversity, and mitigating climate change.

Earth Day is a great opportunity for eaters, farmers, and food businesses to make changes in their diets, shopping habits, and production practices that will promote sustainable, healthy food throughout the year.
